FINANCIAL DISTRICT BUS SHELTER

Group Project

Lilian Bewaji

Marcus Mayne

Design Challenge:

Create a bus shelter tailored for the financial district, integrating and enhancing the unique elements and features of the surrounding area.
.

After conducting research and exploring the financial district, we drew inspiration from the towering modular buildings that convey a sense of hierarchy and the architectural elements that reflect the area's identity. These insights shaped the direction of our design

IDEATION

Using the information we gathered from visiting the location,
we applied principles such as hierarchy,  and the use of steel
components, and asymmetry in our design.

BUILDING PROCESS

Since the form of our design had already been curated, the focus shifted to understanding the details, construction methods, material selection, and structural integrity. By applying knowledge of building processes and conducting research in civil engineering, we ensured that the design was both functional and feasible. This phase of the design process was essential for creating a practical and well-executed solution, enabling us to adhere to real-world constraints

Form building and understanding

Mock Up # 2

Incorporated more detailed use of materials, including cement for structural elements and aluminum steel parts for durability and a modern aesthetic

Building the Final Concept

  • The extended bench was crafted using wood, enhanced with a scorching technique for added texture and character.

  • The base was constructed using MDF and styrene, ensuring durability and a clean, polished finish."
